The ICTSF hosts annual World Championships alternating between two major clay target disciplines: Down The Line (DTL) in even-numbered years and English Sporting (ESP) in odd-numbered years. This rotation offers a diverse competitive experience, showcasing precision in DTL and versatility in ESP across global venues.

DTL

Down The Line (DTL) is a traditional clay target discipline focused on precision and consistency. Shooters face targets released away from them within a fixed arc, with scoring rewarding both accuracy and clean kills.

ICTSF history: DTL has been a cornerstone of international competition for decades and forms the foundation of ICTSF championships. Since the federation’s formation in 2008, the International Clay Target Shooting Federation has hosted DTL World Championships in even-numbered years across countries including Ireland, South Africa, Wales, New Zealand, and Australia.

ESP

English Sporting (ESP) is a dynamic clay shooting discipline designed to simulate live game shooting. Targets vary in speed, angle, height, and distance, testing a shooter’s adaptability, timing, and shot selection.

ICTSF historyESP was introduced by the ICTSF as a World Championship discipline in 2011 and is held in odd-numbered years. Championships have since been hosted in New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, England, and Ireland, helping establish ESP as a key international clay target discipline.
